The idea took off well and the juniors are now an integral part of the Farum Football Club at least. The club has now sent a junior side to Australia three times - 2000, 2003 and 2006, where they have played at the MCG in front of 70,000 spectators at AFL matches. In return, Farum has received visits from Geelong College. A reciprocal and ongoing arrangement has sprung up where the two bodies visit each other every three years. The Farum juniors were also visited by a national representative junior side from England in September 2006, who pariticpated in the Farum Cup, and were also successful in winning the inaugural King Canute Cup, awarded for victory in junior games between Denmark and England. The junior experiment in Denmark has begun to spread, with the Slagslunde Tigers having sprung up in the small village just 12 kms west of Farum, and teams also over in Malmö and Landskrona in Sweden. Results of all junior competitions played in Denmark and Sweden can be found here. Over 100 boys and girls from ages seven to 15 currently play every week both in summer and indoor in the cold Danish winter. As far as the Farum club are concerned, the effort has begun to bare fruit as the team's recent resurgence in the senior competitions testifies. See http://www.farumcats.dk/ for more information. |
